Configuration Ownership

Building software at scale is tricky, and when you have lots of software, you have more problems to solve. Several times engineers look for ways to make their lives easier: make it simple, transparent, and easy to use. That sounds like a good idea, right? What can go wrong with that? Typing is never the bottleneck and will never be. We are all obsessed with reuse; several times, the reuse is marginal and brings way more problems than benefits. Working with an Object-Oriented Language such as Java makes a lot of sense to leverage Dependency. Injection and Ioc(Inversion of Control). Because it's easier to test the Application and also easier to change the Code. In the past, Spring Framework was all about XML; today, all configuration is pretty much done via Code. It's possible to use property files to configure some aspects of backend services written in Java with Spring, yes, but in reality, most of the Code is in the Code in the form of Java Spring Beans.  Spring Framework ...

Java Properties Deep Dive

Image
Properties are around since java.  Properties are a persistent form of K/V pair which is mainly used for configuration. Configuration can be extrapolated all the way down to Feature Flags, Feature Toggles, and Canary. Java properties are cool because they are a simple API that allows you to do simple and yet powerful programing around them. There are 2 interesting projects enhancing properties such as Apache Commons Configuration and Netflix Archaius . These projects are pretty cool and give you killer functionally however the Java Stand SDK can also be pretty powerful if you have enough creativity and know-how to use it. So today I want to share a video exploring the Java Properties API in Depth showing how we can do some pretty powerful and simple configuration management for Dynamic Configurations, Feature Flags, Toggles, and more. So Let's get started!

Kotlin DSL

Image
DSL is an expressive way to declare data and even business rules or configurations.DSLs can either be internal or external. Kotlin has interesting support for building internal and external DSLs. 12 days of Kotlin is a great way to learn more about kotlin-idiomatic solutions. Today I will be exploring the 12 days of kotling posts  in regards to DSL we will understand how they work and what options does kotlin provide to build rich DSLs.  So I recorded a video and also coded the sample of the 12 days of kotling post. So Let's get started.  The Video The Code https://github.com/diegopacheco/kotlin-playground/tree/master/kotlin-dsl-fun Cheers, Diego Pacheco
